Dec. 22, 1917 Dear Blanche, I sure was glad to get your package. The stuffed dates and candy tasted great. The handkerchief was a fine one and the shoe polishing pad will come handy. Thankee. I was thankful for the gift for Marie, and am might glad you thought of her and helped me out. Thanks again and again. Marie sent me a good warm pair of socks and candy, which sure was good. Lou sent me a dollar, which always helps the cause. Mrs. Van sent a little bill book. I have been laid up with that foot this week but the new skin is so I can wear my shoes without a bandage. Today the property sergeant issued me a peach of a new pair of shoes. Also got a couple pair of flight wool socks. Awhile ago, we got our O.D. wool clothing. I got a dandy blouse (coat) with better goods in it than the suit I bought, but the pants were too small. A 32 belt won’t go ‘round my tummy noway, nohow. Even my feet are larger, for an 810 shoe is a very snug fit. Most of the fellows are leaving on their Christmas passes. 38 men are going. I wish I could come home again but of course no chance. I sure had a good time Thanksgiving. Well I must quit as I have to get up early in the morning. With love and thanks to you, Forrest. Hq Co. “A”, 6^(th) Fld. Bn., S. C. Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
