and barred and freckled with brown; occipital crest-feathers alternately barred with
black and rufous; chest, hind part of the neck and mantle washed with grey; bill black ;
feet lead-colour.

For the discovery of this species we are indebted to the researches of M. Tschudi, it being one of the
novelties which rewarded his explorations of the interior of Peru, where he states it is to be met with in the
districts ranging between four and seven thousand feet above the level of the sea. It Cs ay
characters in ponion with O. Guianensis and O. marmoratus, but 1s rendered conspicuously different from
both by the great size and the thickness of its bill, whence the specific name. |
