WESTERN INCIDENTS. 101 party amused themselves by firing at marks, or other objects on the distant bluffs and river. Senator Wade of Ohio, distinguished himself by making several fine shots with the little Ballard rifle, which had recently done such excellent execution among the elk and antelope of the Rocky Mountains ; and he finally became so much attached to the rifle, that he would not allow his photo- graph to be taken without holding it in his hand. A general abandon seemed to pervade the entire party; and every one appeared inclined to yield to the influence of the quiet and majestic repose, which reigned supreme over all the vast plains. DINNER IN CAMP. A sumptuous game dinner awaited the hungry excur- | sionists on their return to the camp during the latter part of the day, as will be seen by referring to the fol- lowing bill of fare, a printed copy of which was found beside the plate of each guest :— UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD EXCURSION.
