Pomeroy, who were acting as Trustees of Lawrence University.  He instructed that the money be held in trust, with the intrest income to be used &quot;for the advancement of religious and intellectual education of the young in Kansas.&quot;  However, Lawrence added that he wanted the funds returned to him if Kansas should not become a free state after its acceptance into the Union.</dc:description>
