July 4^(th), 1918 Dear Father and Sisters:- This is the close of our big celebration (8:30PM). And must say we had a big day. The morning was devoted to a big field meet. At noon the officers had a big spring chicken dinner and then the boxing contests were started, both officers and men getting in the game. Many prizes were awarded to the boys by the officers. I received two letters yesterday from you dated 5/22 and 5/19. I am glad to know father received the hat, I thought perhaps the packages had gone astray. The contents of this folder was retained by me and arrived safely overseas. Thanks Sister, but I don’t think it will be necessary for me to send a request home for anything as we get everything we want here. In fact we can by good American cigars cheaper here at the “Y” than you can in the States. Ralph Carpenter gave me an Argosy the other day dated, May 16^(th). Glad to read the “Local breeze” once again. Merle Phillippi was over to the boxing contests this afternoon. Some live “Jew” he is. Will close for to-nite feeling fine and trusting all is well at home. I am yours truly, Milo H. Main (over) P.S. The city marshal is firing a few fire works to nite. He is some “Frenchman.” Hope you Argonians have enjoyed the day as much as I. It has not been a “hard war” for me to-day. Tell J.W. he had better come over and soak up his slats [?]. (Am at O.M.)
