Director LAWRENCE, KANSAS May 16, 1939 Dr. F. C. Allen Department of Physical Education Campus Dear Doctor Allen: This will acknowledge your memorandum of May 9th, with regard to Oklahoma A.and M. Swimming Pool Confer- ence. We have been receiving information regarding a number of swimming pool conferences being held this spring. We have just received one today from Texas and also informa~ tion of one being held in Michigan and one at Purdue Indiana, and the Illinois conference. In view of the fact that Mr. Perkins, who is planning the Oklahoma conference, is a K.U. graduate and attended our meeting here, I find he has followed the program given here rather closely. We appreciate your calling our attention to the program although a copy had been received directly from Mr. Perkins. We will keep all these programs together so we may have a file if,and when, we consider another meeting. Very t JOHN A. BILLINGSLEY, M. D. DREXEL 3655 611 HURON BUILDING KANSAS CITY, KANSAS April 29,1939. Dr.Forrest C.Allen, Director of Physical Educafion, University of Kansas. Lawrence, Kans. Dear Dr.Allen: Received your letter of April 24th and also the other two letters two weeks ago. I passed on the letter you asked me to, to Lou Steimmeyer, but have not heard nor talked to him since. However, I was very happy to learn on talking to his sister that he was in Lawrence during the relays, and that you had seen him. I also felt very much better when I read your letter saying that he seemed to be warming up a little bit. The last time I talked to him he let me know that he would like to go to Kansas, but he still had that fear, if you please, deep down in his heart that he was bucking up against too good @ coach. I assured him that he could never be under anyone better than our basketball coach at the University of Kansas, and I also told him that you were not out looking for the man who was already made, but wanted young men who had pessibilities, who would cooperate with you. He is a very conscientious chap, and I am sure if we can get him up there we can do a lot with him. I will appreciate it if you will let me hear anything reas about Steinmeyer, or about anyone else if I may help you. , With kindest personal regards, I remain, - Very ey “_ a fe JAB: VE 2 (o.2 7 Se oo. ‘( Hire He He Boggs, Keneas City, ioe Deer Harry: ‘I Ieve just checked up with George 0. Perhaps | should address you as Dr. Allen anyway but | never think of you that way and it really sounds too dignified. Now to business. , | am writing to you in the hope that you may help me in obtaining some information which | desire to write a story about a former K. U. athlete, H. N. U. at one time, was a discus thrower and broad jumper. If it is possible for you to have someone give me the information about Mr. Arnold's career at K. U., at least such parts of it as can be included in a story concerning him, | shall appreciate it very much indeed. Mr. Arnold lives. now just across the state line from another famous athlete, Jesse Harper and ! understand they get together occasionally for athletic reminiscences. If you will recall, we gave them a renewal of this note for one year dating from July 2, 1938. In view of this fact, it would be impossible for us to write and request payments at this time, because the note will not mature until July of this year. I did tell them when the note was renewed that we would be glad to accept payments at any time. However, having renewed it for a period of one year we are put in a position where we cannot ask or suggest payments. I am sure that you will understand this.
