Allen University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: I have your letter of July 1st confirming the two basket- ball games between Kansas and S. M. U., to be played at Dallas on December 19th and 20th. I shall be very happy to forward contracts to cover these games in the very near future to Mr. Gwinn Henry. With reference to your suggestion about the possibility of our bringing Mr. Quigley down as one of the officials in these games, I will state that our attitude concerning such matters is very definite. When we go to the east or midwest or any other section, we are practically forced to use the officials in that section. Of course, we always have the privilege of okaying the officials assigned to the game. We feel, therefore, that when a team from another section comes into our section to play, the same thing should be done. Jimmy St. Clair has just this week been appointed commissioner of football and basketball officials for the Southwest Conference, and I am sure that be- tween him and Coach Baccus and yourself you could work out the officiating problem without any difficulty. I am very happy that we were able to work out this series of games and assure you that we are looking forward to them with a great deal of pleasure. You state in your letter that you are sorry that Billy Dewell will not be playing next year, because you would like to compete against a fine Kansas athlete. I will state that in this respect you shall have this privilege, as Billy has another year of eligibility in both football basketball and will be very much in the line-up when our games are played here next December. He is a very fine boy, and we only wish that some other good Kansas athletes would decide to come to S. M. U. With best personal wishes, I am Sincerely yours, 1 WY. gtaewart~ J. H.
