METHODIST SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS DALLAS, TEXAS STAFF J. H. STEWART Director and Business June hs 193 8 Manager of Athletics MApISsON BELL Football Coach R. = oe Mr. Forrest C. Allen ase oh Freshman Football Cdmiversity of Kansas Cunses Tue Lawrence, Kansas Assistant Football Coach F. C. Baccus Dear Dr. Allen: Basketball Coach Assistant Football Coach Assistant Baseball Coach Please pardon my delay in answering your letter of May 6th and Dr. LEE BROOKS May 20th to Jim St. Clair. I had just dictated a letter in answer ie to your letter of May 6th when Jim received your letter of May 20th, So and we have had the matter under advisement ever since. ies We have gone into the matter from every angle; I have discussed and Grounds it with my Athletic Committee, and we feel that $400.00 for two games is the most that we can gamble at this time. We are very anxious to have you play here and are willing to give you better than an even break on an option on the gate receipts, but we do not feel that we are in a position to make too large a guarantee. I would be willing to give you a 60% option on the gate receipts, if that would help any. I sincerely hope that it is possible for you to make the southern trip and that you are able to line up some other games. As an after- thought, however, I should like to suggest that if it is not possible for you to make this trip, we might be interested in playing you in Lawrence about the same dates as were suggested for the Dallas games. We have had an invitation to play in Dodge City, Kansas, because of Billy Dewell, and we might work out a trip that way if you are not able to come south and are interested in having us up there. I shall appreciate your reaction to the whole matter at your earliest convenience. Sincerely yours, fu Clark H. Stewart Director of Athletics JHS*AH
