OTIAWA UNIVERSITY OTTAWA, KANSAS Nov. 1, 1937 Mr. Forrest C. Allen Kansas University Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen:- In answer to your letter about officials for our games on Decenber 7th and 10th, may I suggest that we cannot approve Ernie Quigley or his son for either of our games. Regardless of Mr. Quigley's reputation as a "Grand Old Man" of officiating, our people will simply not "take" him and after trying him last year I have decided it is unwise to antagonize them. I would suggest that if you have al ready talked with Mr. Quigley about December 7th, you advise him to take mother assignmént with some other school for that night. As to a change of the December 10th date to the Oth or Sth, that would not be wise, since our fans turn our only for Friday night games. Then too, we play our games in the High School Gymnasium ami they greatly prefer us not to change our Schedule. — I had wondered if we coutd not get Perke Carroll or Ted O'Sullivan or both for one or both of our games. I believe you have used both of those men in your Big Six games. In our conference gams we have used only one official, but we would use © two always if more good men were available and if our gate receipts justified the practice. In the game with Kansas we would be willing to secure two men if you wish. Are there any Topeka men whom you would consider good officials? And what Kansas City men do you use? We have used Ab. Henshaw and Claude Cochran, but of course, Ab will not be availeble this winter and I do not know whether or not you wish to use Cochran. I think John Wolf has slowed up to the "impoesible” stage recently end wuld not care to consider him. te Sei Will you make some suggestions for both games, so We can get mee them mutually approved and assigned in the next few days? Frankly — i there are not many good available officials in these parts, I'm afraid. Allen Coach of Basketball Kansas University Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: I returned to Ottawa yesterday and found your letter about basketball games. Yes, we shall be glad to play a pair of games with Kansas. Our conference schedule begins after the holidays, and as yet we have scheduled no games before Christmas. Nearly any pair of dates before Christmas will be all right with us. We would not want to play here in Ottawa after December 16, however, because of our holiday business rush. , Would you want to open your home season with us? If you should want to play us in Lawrence some time between the 3rd and 10th of December and here on December 10, prefer- ably, or December 14 or 15, it would suit us. Or what sug- gestion have you to make? What kind of financial arrangements shall we Sincerely vere Richard M. Godlove, Director of Athletics have?
