Our auditoriun court is so situated that it is necessary to have a
Veshaped double scoreboard in order to give the information to the people on the
stage and the people on the north side of the court, including the lower floor,
. first balcony and second balcony.

? When I was in St» Louis a year ago lest August, working on the ine
vention of the game Goal<iii and its perfection, ‘they were making this electric

You will doubtless recall that three years ago we asked the Athletic
Board to furnish us with an electric scoreboard as all the schools in the BigeSix,
and even the high schoole like Lawrence and Ottawa had electric scoreboards. It
was thought at that time that the University Athletic Association could not efford
ite However, I might add that lest year the basketball team made $2000 net above
all expenses over and above the regular scheduled games. In the Big-Six play-off
and the Fifth District pley-ff in Wichita and Oklahoma City, $1000 net was realized
on each game. You see, this is above the normal expectations of incomes

You received @ copy of my letter written to Chancellot mmlott regarding
the disposition of funds from the National playeff. I attended the meeting in
Chicago and I am very sure that we will get something better than $500.00 om thise
This is still in addition to the money above the budgets Therefore, I feel that
sinee about $2500 was realized after the season closed that it would not be une
thinkable to purchase a scoreboard, inasmuch as $900.00 was spend a few years ago
to heap the begs Shae domm et the stadium for their winter workeoutss

It seens to me that if a team makes as much money as the basketball
team over and above the normal playing season time, that it would not be umreasonable
to give them some of the natural adjaate that college and high school teams all

over the country possesses
