August 28, 1944. Lieut. Vincent J. Hogan, Physical Fitness Officer, Army Air Field, Herington, Kansas. ‘Dear Lieutenant Hogan: Due to the immaturity of our teams this year we are exvesting to out quite markedly in the length of our schedule. I regret that it will not be possible for us to play at your place this year. The train connections were so terribie iast year that the boys did not get a wink of sleep wmtil two o'clock the next afternoon after retuming from your place. It was necessary for us to purchase tickets from Lawrence to Topeka on the Union Pacific and then to re-purchase on the Rock Islend to Merington. The same ‘procedure was enacted upon our return from Herington. For that reason our change at Topeka took up practically the whole of the last day. With regret, I am Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education, -FCA:AH Varsity Basketball Coach.
