October 12, 1944. ~ Mr. Reaves Peters, . Commissioner, Big Six Conference, $42 So. Chelsea, Kansas City, Mo. Dear Reaves: I am sending you a carbon copy of a letter I have written to Bruce Drake, and also a copy of a letter I received from Frosty Cox, and my reply to him. He finds that he can only come for one of the nights. I believe these letters will give you a progress report of the work we are doing. . Would it be possible to get Ab Curtis and Oberhelman for the 2and and 23rd series? I like Ab Curtis very much. He and harhelmn, in my opinion, are tops. | You gan see by the enclosed letter that Bruce does not want to meet a Big Six tean prior to the conference season. That rather makes it difficult, so I thought the best thing to do was not to have Aansas appear in too many games. Our squad does not look promising at all. Confidentially, I nave been asked to go over~ seas November 1, but the Chancellor has so far withheld his ook. It is the Army training program, and still tentative, but shaping up. . 7 Now, I want to write you regarding Glenn “Zeke" Burton - who is the outstanding official in high school and college circles in a - that is, among the young men. I talked to a great number £ people, and Zeke is aggressive, clear-thinking, polite and highly etatan in both football and basketball. Why cannot we get him on our list, and although he camnot work for Kansas, he would be a de~ cided improvement on many Big Six officials that I imow of. I was down to the Tulsa-Kansas football game and heard many flattering reports. I sew Zeke and he is very enaxious to get on both the football and basketball lists. Why don't you give him a break, or at least give him e chance knd he will prove himself, I am gure. Iwas very much gratified to learn of the fine progress that he has made. He has an excellent position with the Bell Teiephone Company, and his rise has been consistent and well-merited. His address is 4454 Hast 13th Place, Tulea. Why don't you drop him a line? Very sincerely yours, | Direator of Physical Education, PCA:AR | Varsity Basketball Coach.
