November 30, 1943. Mr. Clarence B. Hoff, Direetor, . Municipal auditorium, Kansas City, Mo. Dear Mr. Hoff: The Seahawks are prohibited from playing on metropolitan courts, the game as the Great Lekes team, or that at least was their interpretation. I believe the ODT is getting after these service teams and discouraging long trips. _ E had plamed to fill the game om February 5th with some — good team even though I couldn't get the Seshawks. I would still like to reserve that date as I believe Kansas will have a good team and will draw well. Also, I am still plemming on doing some- thing about the 28, 29 and 30th of December. You know you stated that you would tentati hold those until we could try to arrange somthing. I believe we ean get something and make woney for both of us, but I haven't had the opportmity to prawote this idea to fruition. Let me hear from you. Direstor of Physical Education, FCA:AH . Allen, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, Dear Doc., I have just finished talking with Clarence Huff (who between you and I is very much of the George Edwards type of man) who informs me that he has not received any confirmation from you releasing the date of Dec, 18 to me. What I mean by the little mention in parenthesis in the above paragraph, everyone in the Big Six knows how jeal- ous Mr. Edwards is of Dr. Allen's ability in success#ul promotions such as the N.C.A.A. of four years ago. The same condition exists between this gentleman and myself. I wish you would at your earliest convenience please drop him a short note releasing this date to me so that I may complete my arrangements for advertising with the New York office, With all best regards, I an, incerely, 4 James H, Nixon OPER ING THE FINEST IN THE ENTERTAINMENT WORLD * October 1, 1943. Mr. Clarence B, Hoff, Director, Municipal Auditoriun, Kansas City, Missouri. Dear Mr. Hoff: Thank you for your kind letter of September 30th. Iam writing to Lou Lane asking what date he would suggest. I believe we could play Rookhurst over there, and then later have a return game here at Lawrence. It seems now that it will be impossible to get the Big Six double-header, so we will have to have single dates. Nebraska could not play on the 10th and llth of Decenber, but Kansas and Oklahoma will play a single date in Kansas City, and we may be able to work in some high school games as curtain-raisers as we did last year. So I will be glad if you will hold the llth and 18th of Decenber for us. Sincerely yours, Direotor of Physical Education, FCA :AH Varsity Basketball Coach. ADVISORY BOARD MAIN ARENA JOHN C. Dr.Forrest C.Allen University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Phog: I have just finished talking with Lou Lane, the Coach at Rockhurst, and he tells me that he is working on a basketball team and it is his hope that he can combine the college students with the service training students in order to havea much better team then he could get out of his class alone. At the present time, I am holding Saturday, December 11th and Saturday, December 18th for you. When Reaves Peters called me regarding December 10th, I was trying to trade a date in order to make a combination of December 10th and December 11th but I was unable to make the deal, so December 11th stands alone. I have the Boy Scouts Cub Show scheduled for Friday, December ord and Saturday, December 4th, but these dates have not been confirm- ed as yet. There was some doubt as to whether they would go through with this Cub Show, so I am unable to tell you definitely whether you can have those dates or not. We are booked up so closely for the last half of November and the first part of December and it is hard to find two consecutive days available. I believe that Kansas University and others of theBig Six will be sure to draw a crowd, so I am for any game that you can use on the above dates. We are planning on playing Oklahoma in Kansas City on the 18th, and are glad to know you are holding those two dates for us, - December 11 and 18. I will not want the 14th if we close the llth with Rockhurst. Will you also hold December 28, 29 and 50 because we are trying to f111 in those dates, and will try to close as early as possible.
