a January 24, 1944. lire Karl Klooz, Athletis Director, University of Kansas. Dear Mr. Klooz: I acknowledge receipt of your letter of the i8th regarding expense statements and how they should be exesuted. At the first opportunity when I am in Topeka and Kansas City I will get the nee- essary receipts to supplement my expense account. I told Barl that both at the Muehlebach and Harvey House when -I asked for receipts there was a long line waiting and they said, "it you want a receipt you will have to get it later." It happens with the team that we have generally been in a rush with a big crowd and it was absolutely impossible to get the re- ceipts, but I will procure then. If I do not get them the first tine, I will go back the second time and get them. I think you have travel- ed enough to appreciate that situation. You will remember at Columbia, Missouri, I gave the boys money and they bought their own meals. I also gave the boys money at Lawrence, Kansas, on the way back from Columbia when they did not eat in Kansas City for the noon or evening meal. tow do you want those receipts made out? Regarding the charge in Topeka. We played the game December 10 and I made my report for six games about January 12 from expense notations. I have written several checks to Bill Lindquist and if I have only given him $4.50 I will give him the other 507. Thank you for calling this to my attention. I realize that this is no valid excuse for the error but I wag tremendously busy with many details which prohibited me from making out these expense accounts. SS for his trip. The extra mileage was figured in going for pregame meal, then to Washburn, and for postgame meal and then taking the boys to their individual homes when we returned to Lawrence. This would figure $5.00 per sar. Hereafter I'll ale Gueh repert of every cane inmedintely after it is played. Doubtless you have already cha¢ged the administration and credited basketball for your trip to Columbia. I assure you of my full cooperation. Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education, FCA: AH Varsity Basketball Coach.
