At the present time it looks like the preliminary game will be between Rockhurst and Baker, Warrensburg was given consider- ation, but inasmuch as Rockhurst had another game scheduled with them, they preferred to play Emil Liston's team, As soon as we get definite word from Liston I will let you know regarding this game, Received a letter from Henry Iba today telling me that he has an open date of January 29th, and is agreeable to coming in on your double header with the Iowa Pre-Flight School, I hope this arrangement proves satisfactory with you, and that you are ready to close with us on that date, I am sure that the double header would be a good drawing card and would be to the advantage of all concerned, Also would you like for us to come in on the date of January 30th for a pre= liminary game, We could probably pick up a college in this area that would require very little expense, I would be pleased to have your reaction to this proposal, My schedule is shaping up nicely, and now it is just a matter of finding a few ball players that can give our opposition some competition, Sincerely yours, . Allen, Director Department of Physical Education University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Doc, I am planning to open the season with Jack Gardner's Pre-Flight School here in Stillwater on December 2. I would be very much interested in playing his team in Kansas City as a part of your double—header on January 29. I told him in a letter today that I was writing you and giving you this information. He seemed interested in playing the double-header. Would it be possible for A. & M. to play the Iowa school on January 30, the night that you play the Great Lakes? In that way we would be able to have two nights of double- headers. If you think this advisable, I would be glad to hear from you regarding both games. I doubt if it is going to be possible for me to make my trip home again this summer, as my wife is going to have to go go to Austin, Texas to visit her sister and it looks as though I will have to stay pretty close to Stillwater the rest of the summer. So I doubt if I will get to see you before early fall. I will probably be in Kansas City early : in December for a conference meeting and will see you at that time. | Sincerely yours, AL 6 Ke He Ps, ba, Director of Athletics HPI/c duly 17, 1942. bh ipehy od fl ils 4 | a TE iy 2 a5 ipasgi z i i Hy 43 fi x8 aa j igi ib P38 shady Hl 8 is | it ne jill it Sa : Ht i Ault ii! Dear Hank: : Jack Gardmer was in this morning and arranged to play us a couple of basketball games. As you know, we are playing the Pre-Flight School in Kensas City on January 29, and Great lakes on the 30th. If Tony Hinkle had gone ahead with the errangements so we could have met in Kensas City - we would have made everybody a let of money. But tony pre- ferred to play George Edwards and that blew up our perty. However, Jack Gardner is very anxious to play you in Kansas City on January 29 when we play the Pre-Flight School of Iowa City. Do you have that date open? If you do, we will cut you in equally with the Pre-Flight School and Kensas. Gardner says he will be willing to come for expenses and I think a game between your outfit and Jack Gardner‘s out~ fit, together with our appearing on the floor the same night, Co ee If we could match an opponent for you on the 30th that would prove a good drawing card we would still be willing to do that. Can you think of anyone that we would not have to cut the pie fom ways for - someone to play Oklahoma A. & M.? You see, Hank, if we out it four ways it will be cutting into the earnings but if we cut it three ways and get someone to pley for expenses then we will make enough money for every~ ONGe But if you have only the 29th open what do you say as to playing on the 29th? The limit of players on the home squad used in conference basketball games was removed. (If we desire that the limit — on travelling squads be raised from ten to eleven, we had better take this up in the meeting March 22nd. } The basketball coaches shalh submit a minimum of ten officials on a preferantial basis to the Commissioner of Officials for appointment in basketball games, (Last spring when we asked that the Commissioner of Officials in football take over the assignment of basketball officials, our request was that the procedure we have followed for the past three years be continued.
