from the K.U. SPORTS NEWS BUREAU @ KANSAS UNIVERSITY % LAWRENCE, KANSAS @ CHARLES ELLIOTT, Editor LAWRENCE, Kans., Dec, —- The most ambitious basketball schedule in the history of the Big Six Conference finds every team busily engaged in regular season games this week as the freshman eligibility rule for the member schools awaits definite action by the Big Six Athletic Board which meets in Kansas City Saturday. Eighty-six games have been scheduled by the six schools for play during the 1942-43 basketball season. This is an increase of eight games over the schedule of a year ago, The two conference co-champions, Kansas and Oklahoma, lead the pack in respect to non-conference games. These two schools play as many games of this nature as do the other four members combined, Coach Forrest C. "Phog" Allen, who is starting his 26th year of basketball coaching at the University of Kansas and his 32nd year of coaching, has outlined a teriffic schedule for his Jayhawker cagers to weather this year, Besides the ten regular conference games, eight other intercollegiate foes have been selected as well as seven games with service teams of the nation, making a total of 25 scheduled games, The Jayhawks will be making tieir second trip to New York City when they meet Fordham University in Madison Square Garden December 28, The University of Oklahoma, playing 13 non-conference games, will also appear in the Garden, playing St. Johns College Dec. 19. An oddity of the composite Big Six schedules this year is that no school goes farther west than Wichita to play a game, although Oklahoma and Kansas reach the eastern seaboard and ilissouri and Nebraska get as far east as Champaign, Illinois. 1942-1943 Big Six Conference and Non—Conference Basketball Schedule (LEGEND: All games marked with an asterik before the first named team are Big Six Conference games, The scores which are placed in parentheses after the site of the game are the scores of games played between these two schools last year, the first score being that of the first named team.
