Dept. My dear Phog: As you know, the army provides for the establishment of refresher courses for men who are unable to keep up the full program of studies. The boys in the refresher group will be withdrawn from all the class schedules and will’ start on Tuesday in the refresher program of physics, chemistry, and math. The boys on the failing list will be withdrawn from the program within a few days. The boys in the refresher group must keep up their physical training program and in order to fit them into the schedule of the new course, it has been necessary to make some changes in the physical training hours, These are indicated on the sheet which is enclosed. I hope it will be possible for you to make these changes with the instructors involved starting Tuesday. The rest of the boys in refresher program will be able to continue in their regular physical training section. Sincerely yours, Bert A. Nash Director AST Program BAN:mo September 20, 1943 Members of the faculty in the Arny rena Prograzs May I call to your attention the necessity of teiten any low marke for Army boys at the end of 8 weeks in my office not later than Monday noon, Oct. 4th, This is a requirement of the Omaha office, since our report of boys to be withdraw must be submitted soon thereafter, and it is necessary that we interview each boy before sending his name on the report. As a result of the stiff pace of the army program, nearly fifty boys have withdrawn from the program, or will have done so early this week. Some of these left voluntarily, and some by request, In addition, sixty-five boys are being withdraw from the regular program and placed in a "refresher" program for the remeinder of this term, Thus a total of more than 100 boys who have found the progrem too difficult heave been removed from nw. py your classes, which is approximately 14 percent. ‘ ql In addition to the report of Dor F, please indicate on each card for a student whether, in your judgment, the boy will probably fail or probably pass at the end of the term, We do not expect complete accuracy in these esti- mations, but we must have some idea of the probable number of replacements we shall need, Also, will you indicate, as before, any students whe are doing outstanding work, or A grade, and so mark this on a separate card for each such boy, under Remarks. Bert A. Nash Coordinator, AST Program The following boys must make shifts in their Phy. Ed. schedule to meet the schedule of the refresher course.
