Since the Extension Division suddenly scheduled a Convention right in the middle of our short repair period between August 9th and September 10th we found that we did not have time to perform a major operation on these pipe lines therefore we decided to paint them up and wait until some future vacation time when we would have sufficient time to do the work. I have this item on my list of repairs and will of course see that it is done at the first opportunity. Very truly yours, AT Aw Superi ntendent Dept Buildings & Grounds CGB: hi August 29, 1941. . Dear Mr. Payles: There is a 12-inch plain, unpainted board tacked at the bottom of the outside door at the west entrance to the gymasium. The evident purpose of this board is to reinforce a decayed portion of the door. It is a very unsightly thing, and we would appreciate having the door repaired in the proper way. Dear Ce Ges In closing up the summer recreative program, I cannot refrain from writing you concerning the very loyal and energetic cooperation of Hallie Harris. I desire to mention especially Hallie's cooperation in arrangements for the dances and the evening affairs. At all times he was solicitous in seeing that we got what we asked for, and the best part of it was that he was always on the job at the right spot at the right moment. He did his job one hundred per cent. Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education, FCA: aii Varsity Basketball Coach. January 5, 1944. Mr. Hallie Harris, Buildings and Grounds. Dear Hallie: The condition of the floor in Hoch Auditoriua after the last dance is highly unsatisfactory. The floor was _ gerubbed once, tut much of the wax remained, but the boys have slipped and are very likely to get seriously hurt. T am entering a protest against any more dances on that floor during basketball season where wax is used on the floor. They will have to find some place else to dance, because we can'play basketball on a slippery floor. T watched the game last night between Port Riley and the Machinists’ Mates, and‘there were terrific spills. I em now asking you to have the men go over the floor again, and the student dance committee will have to pay the dbi11 because the job hasn't been done properly. Get some men and go after it again - don't wait for funds. Then ¥ want it tested before we go on the floor, beceuse the job has not been well done before. TI am not feeling good ebout it et all. Sincerely yours, : Director of Physical Rducation, POA:AH Varsity Basketball Coach. October 21, 1943. Mr. Henry Firner, Buildings and Grounds. Dear Henry: Last year I remember that we had difficulty during basketball season in synchronizing the two clocks in Hoch Auditorium. The one on the east ran too fast, I believe. At least, they were not together. There was some work done on them, but only for one game, I think, were they satisfactory. I am bringing this matter up early so that something could be done on the clocks before basketball season rolis around. We have a tentative game during Homecoming, =p apa ae aoe a a ns 1 we will play our first game here at home. ese it will be necessary for any sizeable atin to fix this thing I wish you would let me know so that I can take it up with the proper authorities. Certainly I realize that we may have some kick beck from the Athletic Association, who already paid a iet more than they thought they should pey, but that is neither here nor there. At the present moment we realize that each coach who comes here will have just complaint if the two clocks are not tegether. We cannot explain to them one cleck is official and one is not, because the players in their excitement are apt to look up at one olock and get confused as to whether it is official or not. I am sure that you can readily see this point, and since it will mean so meh grief to us the way it is I think we should start to remedy the defect be- fore the time for dissatisfaction arrives. Don't you agree with me? Won't you check on this matter and let me know what it will take Director of Physical Mobation, PCA: AH Varsity Basketball Coach. = a — att 2 \ fe epacde Bal : a4 Boe f A i: . BAYLES, SUPERINTENDENT July 28, 1943 Dre F. ©. Allen Director of Physical Ed. Dear Dr. Allen: I acknowledge your letter of July 25th and again urge you to try again to get a man for all this additional work. There seems to be at least a full time additional job due to the increased load on our ancient gymnasium. . The budget allowance as set up now provides funds for one man eight hours per day and apparently is not adequate. From what you say about the floors it seems this janitors time should be used on the general care of the building for which it was intended before all this extra load came in. The best solution it seems to me would be the addition of a man to be trained in the care of the pool and its equipment. This is my recommendation to both your: de- partment and to the budget committee under the present emergency e : The load no doubt will increase with the A. S. T. P. group soon to come unless they can use the stadium showers until facilities are installed in Lindley Hall. I know you have a tremendous problem and so do all of us right now. We will do the best we can under the circumstances. Only seven more years to go for you and I probably won't last that long. Sincerely, Superintendent Dept. Bldgs. & Grounds CGB:mb
