THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS LAWRENCE DEPARTMENT OF BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS Cc. G. BAYLES, SUPERINTENDENT July 28, 1943 Dre F. ©. Allen Director of Physical Ed. Dear Dr. Allen: I acknowledge your letter of July 25th and again urge you to try again to get a man for all this additional work. There seems to be at least a full time additional job due to the increased load on our ancient gymnasium. . The budget allowance as set up now provides funds for one man eight hours per day and apparently is not adequate. From what you say about the floors it seems this janitors time should be used on the general care of the building for which it was intended before all this extra load came in. The best solution it seems to me would be the addition of a man to be trained in the care of the pool and its equipment. This is my recommendation to both your: de- partment and to the budget committee under the present emergency e : The load no doubt will increase with the A. S. T. P. group soon to come unless they can use the stadium showers until facilities are installed in Lindley Hall. I know you have a tremendous problem and so do all of us right now. We will do the best we can under the circumstances. Only seven more years to go for you and I probably won't last that long. Sincerely, Superintendent Dept. Bldgs. & Grounds CGB:mb
