UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS Pe LAWRENCE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION February 9, 1942. Dr. Forrest C. Allen, Department of Physical Education. Dear Doc: Just a note again regarding the intramural fields. Since intramural softball is one of the most popular sports on the intramural program, I am looking forward fara place to play this spring. We usually start the latter part of March. The condition of the west intramural field is such that I am confident we will not be able to use it for a long time. Incidentally, I am told that the field will be of no value wtil a concrete sewer is put through in the location of the present ditch, which Mr. Bayles says will cost $2700. Since the grade in the northeast end of the field is lower than the ditch it- self, we will always have drainage toward the southwest corner of the field. If the east fields are to have a permanent ice rink in one corner (and I haven't a sufficient amount of imagination to understand the justification of that procedure) it would only be possible for us to have one field and two fields for the women. In the last few days the other level land has been plowed. About the only thing I can see is to rent ground, and I think it would be possible to rent land at the site of the old Ban Johnson league ball park on 21st and Louisiana Street. I understand a man by the neme of Heffner has the renting of the land. His telephone is 2201. Sincerefy, E. R. Elbel.
