NICKEL MILLING AND SMELTING 2 0.50
Taken in Sudbury District, Ontario, where most of the
world's nickel is produced. Show's world's largest nickel
smelter, reservoir, power plant, transformer station, ore
being loaded into cars, transported to screening plant, crushed
and ground. Flotation is depicted. Shows nickel concentra-—
tes being treated in roasting plant, charged into reverberatory
furnaces, tapping resulting matte from furnace, charging to nickel
converters . Copper concentrates go to reverberatory furnaces,
then to copper converters, where they are blown to blister
copper.

 

NICKEL MINING 2 0.50
Shows map of Sudbury District, Ontario, where most extensive
deposits of nickel-—bearing ores are located. Surface views
of the largest nickel mine in the world. Includes: miners
entering cage, drilling in drift, mucking machine, drilling
a stope breast preparatory to blasting, miners coming off
shift, lamp house, hoisting of ore to top of shaft house,
drilling, loading, blasting, loading trucks, hauling to
crusher, storage bins.

NICKEL REFINING z 0.50
Film begins with airplane views of a large refinery produc-
ing electrolytic nickel, black nickel oxide, and nickel
shot. Shows nickel sulphide being crushed and ground in
ball mill, transferred to leaching tanks, washed, and dried,
feeding to reverberatory anode furnaces, tapping, pouring
into molds, transferring anodes to electrolytic tanks, wash—
ing, weighing, and shearing into various sizes.
