THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF JOURNALISM LAWRENCE ROUGH TENNIS COURT ESTIMATE FOR S.A.E. The following estimate was given by Tommy Constant for a proposéd tennis court surface. | Total cost-$500.00 Including: 6" rock base with a heavy oak board around all four. sides of court, The preseht surface has a mixed clay and fine screen gravel, with a cinder base below that. The crushed rock base will be put on top of the present surface. The contractor stated that the job should last for 10 years. Of course the court musb ine rolled each year to tighten the asphalt surface. Materials Mulsified asphalt(a combination of cold asphalt, fine crushed rock) The surface will have the re bite that a smooth clay court would have. At the present I do not have the figures for the amount of ground the surface will cover but it is understood that the back court will be the same as a regulation cement court. This type of court is similiar to those used in Kansas City on several of their courts and the surface is standing up according to the above specifications. The material is mixed with an ordinary cement mixer. It takes approximately 6 days to conpteee the job with a standard crew of men.
