10 The Umversity of Kansas CREDITS The maximum amount of credit obtained during the term is eight hours, but students whose previous records are not of sufficiently high standard will be refused the maximum enrollment. ADVANCED STANDING Summer Session students entering the University for the first time, who have credit for work done elsewhere which they wish to transfer for advanced standing toward a degree at the University, should have complete official tran- scripts of records, including a letter of honorable dismissal from the institu- tion last attended, together with a certificate of high-school credits, sent to the secretary of the Advanced Standing Committee at least thirty days before the opening of the session, in order that proper evaluations of their credits may be made and their standing determined in time for matriculation. Careful observance of this regulation will save valuable time. SPECIAL STUDENTS Summer Session students who do not plan to apply for a degree from this University, and who wish to do summer work with other objects in view, will, upon declaration of that fact, be admitted as unclassified or special Summer Session students in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the admission of special students. Students now enrolled in other institutions who wish to enroll in the Summer Session of this University must present a state- ment from the dean or president of the institution last attended that they are in good standing. Such students may not subsequently apply Summer Ses- sion credits toward a degree except by special action of the faculty con- cerned. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CERTIFICATE The State Board of Education, in the summer of 1937, issued regulations for elementary school certificates based on the completion of a sixty-hour curriculum. It is planned to offer a part of the courses required by the state board for this certificate during the Summer Session of 1941. Students desiring these courses, if not previously matriculated in the University, will be registered as special students in the School of Education. Credit so earned will be certified to the State Board of Education to meet certification requirements and may later be transferred to the specific school or college in which the student may finally elect to complete his college course. A considerable part of the work may be applied toward degrees at the University, depending upon the require- ments of the particular school in which the student elects to complete his work. As stated in the preceding paragraph, application of such credit toward a degree requires special action of the faculty concerned. All persons interested in these proposed special courses are invited to ask for a copy of the special circular issued by the Summer Session concerning this problem. Address the Director of the Summer Session, University of Kansas, Lawrence. GRADUATE CREDITS Graduate students may receive a maximum credit of eight hours during the Summer Session. This means that it is possible to satisfy in four summers the minimum requirements of thirty hours’ graduate work in residence for the master’s degree. However, the candidate for the master’s degree is strongly advised to spend at least one semester of a regular school year in residence at the University. _ Under the regulations of the Graduate Faculty credit in graduate courses completed more than six years before the general examination for the master’s degree, must be validated by special examination if used to meet part of the requirements for the degree. All courses in order to be accepted towards a higher degree must be ap- proved in advance by the dean of the Graduate School and by the representa-
