12 The University of Kansas credit, for incidental fees as follows: At Lawrence, $2.50 an hour if he is a resi- dent of Kansas, $7.50 an hour if he is a nonresident; at Kansas City, $5 an hour if he is a resident of Kansas, $12.50 an hour if he is a nonresident. Graduate Field Rate: A person doing field work for credit in the Graduate School may pay incidental fees as follows: $2.50 an hour, up to a maximum of $20, if he is a resident of Kansas, $7.50 an hour, up to a maximum of $50, if he is a nonresident. Staff Fee: A member of the University staff regularly engaged for at least one-half of full-time service may pay incidental fees as follows: At Lawrence, $2.50 an hour up to a maximum of the regular incidental fee of the school in which he is enrolled; at Kansas City, $5 an hour, up to a maximum of the regular incidental fee. Activity Free. Each student enrolled in resident courses pays an activity fee of $1.50. This fee provides for the operation of the Memorial Union building, the Summer Session Kansan, the recreational facilities, the summer session lectures and concerts, the campus sing, and other activities. Admission to these activities 1s free upon presentation of the activity ticket. Heauru Fes. A health fee of $2.50 is charged each student, except a person paying the professional fee or the graduate field fee, or a member of the full- time staff at the University. The health service is not available to these three excepted groups. The fee is optional for part-time members of the University staff who pay incidental fees at the staff rate, but persons who do not elect to pay the health fee forfeit the benefit of the health service. The health fee entitles a student to free consultation at the University Health Service and to hospital care for illness contracted while the individual is in the University. ESTIMATE OF EXPENSES The following table gives a close estimate of the necessary expenses of a student for the Summer Session. Three estimates are given: Low, average, and high. If a student shares his room with another and practices the strictest economy, he may possibly reduce these estimates. Some of the items depend on the scale of living of the individual student. The new library, Watson Hall, is centrally located on the campus and af- fords every modern convenience for study and research. The reading rooms are commodious, and particular provision is made for the needs of graduate students. The University libraries now contain over 300,000 volumes properly cata- logued and classified, and a large amount of uncatalogued material, including thousands of pamphlets.
