The Summer Session 15 price for each room. Students who are living in rooms are expected to do so only in houses which are on these lists. The average cost of rooms in houses near the University is from $6 to $10 per month for single rooms. The cost per person of double rooms for the same period is somewhat less. The average charge for board is $4.50 to $5 per week. It must be remembered that the price charged is dependent on the quality of accommodations offered. Naturally the best places are higher priced. UNIVERSITY DINING HALL The University Dining Hall (cafeteria) is located in the Student Union building. It will be open during the Summer Session, serving three meals daily. The average cost of meals served during the past year has been low and costs are kept as low as is consistent with good, well-cooked food. The preparation and serving of food is carefully supervised and students may be assured of good meals at a reasonable cost. RECREATION Among the strong inducements the University offers to Summer Session students are the opportunities for recreation. The campus itself, with its high location, plentiful shade and splendid view of the river valley is one of the most delightful and restful spots in Kansas. There are frequent opportunities for informal gatherings, parties, picnics and hikes to increase the pleasure of the session and to extend acquaintance by social intercourse in a wholesome outdoor life. The University swimming pool in Robinson Gymnasium is open daily. There is available a carefully supervised outdoor pool under private manage- ment that may be used by the students at a special rate. . The athletic plant offers opportunities for wholesome play and for practi- cally every form of indoor and outdoor exercise. The athletic field, with its track, twenty-four tennis courts and two baseball diamonds, is always ready for use without expense to the students. There are handball courts that will ac- commodate thirty-two players at one time. A golf course is available on the campus. Each evening from Monday to Friday a program of games and play is pro- vided on the quadrangle north of Fowler Shops. All Summer Session students and their families are welcomed. Supervised play for small children is di- rected by students in the Department of Physical Education. Adults may ue a variety of games, including shuffleboard, goal-hi, darts, croquet, and archery. The School of Fine Arts will provide a series of high-grade musical attrac- tions. This includes at least one evening program each week in which the faculty of the School of Fine Arts and the more advanced students will partici- pate. The community sing which occurs on the campus at early twilight is very popular. A Summer Session orchestra will meet twice each week for re- hearsal. This group gives a concert during the session which is one of the in- teresting events of the musical calendar. There are frequent lectures by educators of note. The Sunday vesper serv- ices consisting of sacred concerts sponsored by the Fine Arts faculty and short addresses by widely known ministers have had a large attendance. The stu- dents of the Department of Education maintain a forum which meets each Tuesday evening for the discussion of educational topics. All these campus entertainments and concerts are open to Summer Session students free of charge on presentation of the activity ticket.
