to the use and interpretation’ of statistical methods in education. It intro«
duces the student to scientific method and technique as a necessary prepara-
tion for later courses in measurement, supervision, psychology, administration,
experimentation, etc. Actual practice is provided for training the student in
the use of simple statistical procedure. Reading assignment, laboratory work

E352. EpucationaL MEASUREMENTS. ‘Three hours credit. The course in
Educational Measurements is designed to introduce students to the changes
which have taken place in educational practice due to the employment of
more scientific instruments of measurement. The inadequacy of subjective
measures, the importance of diagnosis and remedial types of instruction are
emphasized. The student will have an opportunity to develop actual ac-
quaintance with standardized tests in his own and related fields. He will
receive practice in the selection, administration, scoring, and tabulation of
results pertaining to educational tests. Prerequisite, 15 hours of Education.

methods and results of school surveys. Includes a study of selected parts of
standard surveys and a consideration of types of practical survey work pos-

E377. Prostems or ELEMENTARY ScHoot Supervision. Two hours credit.
A course for elementary school principals and teachers covering a general con-
sideration of the aims of elementary education, detailed study of the cur-
ricula with reference to materials of instruction and special techniques de-
veloped, individual differences from the standpoint of supervision, and a
general consideration of method with special reference to the proper use of
the problem project. Prerequisite, 15 hours of Education. 7:30-8:20.

E399. ResearcH IN EpucaTionaAL MEASUREMENT AND SUPERVISION. Two to
eight hours credit. Required of all candidates for the degree of Master of
Arts and Master of Science in Education or Master of Education, whose pri-
mary interest is in the field of educational measurement and supervision. The
work of the course consists of intensive and independent investigation done
under the general direction of the instructor in charge. To secure credit in
the course the results of the study must be presented either in the form of a
thesis or as a carefully prepared report, whichever is suitable to the purposes
for which the study is made. Prerequisites are E252 and E272. Graduate stu-
dents electing to do research in educational measurement and supervision will
attend A304, Seminar in Educational Administration. By appointment.
