November 25, 1939. Dr. F. C. Allen, Department of Physical Giucation, University of Kensas. My dear Dr. Alien: In thinking over practical courses fer these tonchers in service who will be here and who will cane to the summer session if they can get such omurses, will it be pessible to include the following? I. Playground Activities far the Elementary School. This course should deal with the play program fran the classroom teachers' stenipoint since she so often is the one +o carry it on. Such points as the following shald be covered in avrder to make the course vital: 1. Games suiteble for the different grades. 2, Self-testing activities beth with and without ee ee ao . Limes etabie for the different grade levels, 4. Organization of groups on the playgr ound. 5. Use and care of equipment 6. Development and use of avadent leader ship. ‘5 x It. Theory ani Preetice of Individual and Dual Sports. 3 Since many teachers in the field have neither played nor hed an oppertunity to see played some of the mare recent small group ectivities ani since such an increased emphasis is being placed on this long neglected field in Physical Hiveation, such activities as the following should be presented to the group: i. Arohery 2. Desk tennis and games of the same type 3. Badminton 4. Horseshoes 5. Handball 6. Shuffleboard Nao If courses such as these can be offered, it seems to me an existing need can be met. Very sincerely yours,
