My dear Dr. Allen:

I am asking the Board of Regents to transfer
$5,000 from our reserve balances to cover the cost
of the physical conditioning program, as approved
by the Chancellor. This will be divided as follows:

Maintenance 1,950 ——
Assi stance go,070_

This is all there is in sight, so that your purchases
and staff will have to be arranged within the total

of $5,000.

As to the locks for the women's department,
I should say that this is a matter for you to work
out in the department. I am not sure that your
budget will stand the purchase of several hunired
loeks for resale to students, but if you are sure
of the sales during the school year, you should
not be concerned.

I wonder, however, if it wuld not be simpler
all the way around to ask the students to provide
their own locks from other sources.
