THE ROBIN HOOD ARCHERY CO. W. H. JACKSON - C. J. WEESE 971 BROAD STREET NEWARK, N. J. <7 Phone Mitchell 2-0680 July 16, 1938. A ur. V. W. Lapp, Asst. Professor Dept. of Physical Education University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Mr. Lapp: We have enclosed a copy of our teachers' instruction booklet, which you have requested, and we indeed hope that you will find it of value in the teaching of archery. The booklet, though brief, covers completely and exactly the technique used by the leading archers of the country. This system is used exclusively in all of the schools and colleges of New Jersey and has proven highly efficient. Enclosed also is a price list illustrating and itemizing the archery tackle we manufacture, from which you are entitled to a school discount of 20%. For years we have specialized in out- fitting schools and colleges, and our close contact with them has enabled us to make equipment which is reasonable in price and yet so constructed as to withstand the use and abuse given it in this particular work. All of our craftsmen are archers themselves and four of them constitute the 1937 National Championship Team. With men of this ability to make and design equipment, we feel that we can give you the finest expert service and advice. We are very proud of the tackle we make and hope that we may 7 have the opportunity to supply your archery needs. In any event, our staff is always at your service and would be only too glad to give you any help you desire. | Very truly yours, THE ROBIN HOOD ARCHERY CO WHd:D Enc, 90 (etoadns AE i, a. Pen, 9, 2967 Dear Dr. Allens Tn aceordance with vour request for a letter ststing my experience in teaching srchery, IT ar presenting my gqnali- From June to September, I was employed by Mr. Clifford A. Russel at Sportland, a 25 yard outdoor-range, located at Lake Arrowhead, California, Since Sportland is a commercial archery range, 90% of the people had never before had instruction. a taught approximately 5,000 people how to ghoot a bow and arrow. A number of these peorle were famous movie stars, including Spanky MeFarland, Freddie Bartholemew, Norma Shearer, and Phillip Morris Jr. T taught three methods of aiming, first the point of ain. which is used for target shooting, second, the snap shooting, used :inchuntingowith acbow- andiarrow; and third , imaginary point of air which is used both for target shooting and hnunt- ing. Bows ranging from twentytto ‘orty-five pounds pull were used. ‘YWomen{ usnally require a bow of twenty to thirty pounds pull, while apw oulline trom thirty to forty-five.oounds Tenonwood bows backed with . fiber were used ,which cost " $7450 to 310. Yewwood bos cost usnally about 320. Twoeway footed arrows were use because a footed arrow is heavier at the pile or ees and this wnsures more accurate shooting. These srrows when bought wholesale cost $5 a dozen. The lengths of ar-ow=s used. depends upon the arm-length of the individual shooting, and the sizes vary from <2 to 28 inches. In addition to teaching archery, I also repsired eqnip- ment: replacine the fletchings or feathers, Enochs of notches, and the oiles or vroints. Another item of expense is the bo: strings | which are made of special English - linen and cost 30. 75 encne From my @xpericnce at Sportland where °6,000 worth of e.yuioment is bonght each year, I am convinced that such egquioment will give the best vesults, and that while @auipment can be purchaced ata lower cost or at a much greater price the ty .e mentionec above will be the rost satisf=ctory. : = 4 cies 7) % oe e 2 MERGER SALE PRICE LIST STAFFORD An OW MFG.CO, 4333 Cole A vee Dalles, Texas.
