Limping Born Is Held To 12 Points by Butts BY DICK SNIDER Daily Capital Sports Editor KANSAS CITY; MO. — Kansas disposed of Colorado, 79-62, and Missouri ousted Iowa State, 74-65, here Saturday in the open- ing of the eighth annual Big Seven basketball tournament which produced not even a mild threat of an upset. Playing before a quiet audience of 9,400 in Municipal Audi- torium, the Jayhawks and Tigers moved into a semifinal match Tuesday night. The tournament resumes here Monday with lower bracket first-round games, matching Kansas State against Ne- braska at 8 p. m., and Oklahoma against guest team Washington at 9:45. Kansas, paced by veterans Al Kelley and Harold Patterson, and a sizzling band of sopho- ‘mores led: by Dallas Dobbs, erased an early Colorado lead in the first period and went on to make it a rout in the second half. Missouri had an easy time, too, never trailing the Cyclones,and piling up a 20-point lead Jate in the third period. Bob Reiter, 6-8 Missouri center, led a# first-half attack that put thé I-Staters under for keeps. B. H. Born, KYs 6-9 scoring leader, was hel@ to two field goals, both\in tie first half, but Kelley and ‘Débbs took up *the slack with ‘@8 points between them, 17 in the nip-and-tuck first two periods. Kansas came from behind to take a 17-4 first-period lead, and ie pulled away with a late spurt for a 35-27 margin at half- time.
