June lOth, 1941 Mr. Dewey Wolgast Superintendant of Schools Marysville, Sansas Dear Dewey: Our commencement has interfered with a more prompt reply to your letter regarding Floyd Hanson. Frankness is always a virtue even though it might interfere in your desire to help an individual that you wish to help. I'm very fond of Floyd Hanson and his wife. 1 worked with Floyd in his effort’ to secure the Sabetha position. I understand that he was not wholly satis- factory. His greatest shortcoming was the fact that he did . not mix with the towns people. I understand that he had no bad habits and was failry successful with the boys but he did not engender a loyal following. If he is an applicant for the head coaching position at your school, I'm wondering if this position might not prove. too difficult for him there. I certainly would not want to recommend someone to you who might fail. We have some highly successful coaches such as Carney Smith at Paola; Paul Masoner at Garnet; Forrest Hardacre at SmithCenter, and Dave Shirk at Augusta. If you're interested in any of these young men or if you desire further information on Floyd Hanson, I will be very happy to furnish the same. Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education and Recreation-Varsity Basketball and - ‘Baseball Coach. FCA:re
