Dear Dr. Allen:

The war is compelling us to make
some changes on our staff as our entire male
student body is under the direction of the
military command with permanent officers
supplied by the Canadian Militia. Of course,
as a result almost our entire competitive
programme has had to be cancelled.

Except for some intramural work
which we are still trying to keep alive,
almost all other activities have ceased and
as we look forward into next year, we fear
that even less time can be given by the
students for anything outside their Officers!
Training Corps.

Due to financial stringency, the
University is compelled to reduce to the
absolute minimum the members of our starf.

Eight years ago Lewis H. Davies
came to us as a student instructor and com-
pleted his Master's work in two years. Since
that time he has continued on with us as 4
full time member of the staff. As a basketball
coach and as a track coach, we have never had
his equal and as an executive in the office,
I have never had an assistant who is so capabte
in organizing our work.

Mr. Davies is married. Has a delight-
ful wife who has won the hearts of our people
here. They have one child. We regret very much
that it is necessary for us to sever our
relationship with them.
