Allen Coach, Kansas University Basket Ball Team c/o Director of Athletics Temple University Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Dear Dr. Allen: I have your letter of December 23rd in which you say that you and your Basketball Team expect to be in Washington on December 3lst. I ehail, of course, look forward to seeing you and it will be a pleasure to help you and the boys in every way I can. I am not so sure that December Slst will be a good day to visit the government departments. The departments were all closed the day before Christmas and there seems to be a likelihood that the President may issue an order giving employees a vacation the day before New Years, though the order has not yet been issued. If the departments are not working, it will, of course, not be possible for you to visit the various buildings. I will say, however, that I called Mr. Hoover, Director of the F.B.I., and he said that if you should get here in the forenoon he would be glad to see that you were give the tour of his Bureau even though the depart- ments might be nominally closed. I enclose a letter addressed to Mr. Hoover. His office will be looking for you because of my call, but I think it would be well for you to have a formal letter anyway. I do not know’ what your plans are, of course, but hope you will not hesitate to call on me for
