March 29, 1946. Mr. de P. Wellemeyer, Principal, Wyandotte High School, Kansas City, Kansas. Dear Mr. Wellemever: You heave always appreciated frankness. Neither the University of Kansas nor the Athletic Department have the funds for the coaches to make speeches at athletic banquets. A number of times I have paid my own expenses, but I do not believe ‘that you would want me to do thet. I drive my Buick automobile, and while gasoline is difficult to obtain, tires are more difficult. Por that reason, I thought I should write you, and I know that you would want to pay the cost of my trip to your Kaycee banquet. I cannot drive this big car for six cents a mile, and I compute the expense of such a trip at seven cents a mile, covering incideftals and so forth. If $7.00 is not too much for you to pay, I believe that would settle all accounts. Tf am having to do this in all situ- ations so there will be no misunderstanding and no embarrassment to anyGne « : I believe you said that you were going to write me to give the location and time of the banquet. Willi you kindly do this at your convenience? . With all geod wishes, I am ‘Very sincerely yours, Direstor of Physical Education, PCAsAH Varsity Basketball Coach.
