Whena registration is caycelled by a tee board by reason of the subject being in an age category not required to register, the DSS Form 110 carrying the cancellation should show the correct date of birth rather than the date given at time of registration. 2. The entries to be made on DSS Form 110 for a man who volunteered for induction through Selective Service prior to the time that he was required to register and at that time assigned a "V" order number, but who has since been discharged from the service and reported to the local board for registration, should be reported on the first line as Order No. "Vy" | going from "I-C (Ind.)" to "(Canc)" and then on the second line showing his newly assigned order and serial numbers and going from "New Reg." to tO", After such actions have been reported the local board will subse— quently report any classification actions taken, such as from "0" to: "THC (Disc. yt, 3. Posters identifying your Local Board as a Veterans Information Center are being shipped direct to you by the National Headquarters. 2. I understand that this poster is printed in four colors and fcatures the gold discharge emblem with the words "Veterans Information Center" in large red letters. The poster is designed to identify your Local Board as an information center where veterans and the public can obtain information in accordance with the Selective Service Veterans Assistance Program. 3. The Veterans Information Center poster is an identification poster and should be placed in a window or door or similar location facing the street wher possible, where it may be scen by the largest number of passers-by. 4, It is recommended that as many of the following steps as possible be carried out to tie in with the Local Board's activities as a Veterans Information Center: (a) Retype the attached news release (item A) with the correct information inserted and .ske any other changes de= sired and submit a typewritten copy to the editor of each local newspaper in the Local Board's territory. (b) Address letters similar to the attached (item B) to each of the following in the community: Travelers Aid Society U. S. O. Manager Chief of Police and all police stations Newspaper offices Community Information Bureau Chamber of Commerce Manager of each hotel in the community Station agent, all railroad, bus, and interurban stations | Such other agencies as are appropriate (c) Contact all local radio,stations, informing thon of .the . functicns of the Local Board as a Veterans Information Center and suggesting spot announcements on the nature of the Local Board's services to veterans. Such announcements would be particularly appropriate adjoining programs about veterans or about veterars assistance. v.P ‘ps ben wm (ad) Contact advertising managers of all local newspapers suggesting that illustrations of the gold discharge emblem be included in advertisements of local advertisers, together with the address of the Local Board as a Veterans Information Center.” Picturesand cuts of the discharge emblom have been furnished all local newspapers as a part of the campaign to popularize and give recognition to the discharge emblem. 5¢ The above suggestions are offered to assist your Local Board in obtaining all possible recognition as a Veterans Information Center, The poster itself is merely an identification sign but it offers an excellent opportunity to give wide distribution to information on the Veterans Informa~ tion Center location and functions. 6. Government agencies serving veterans. The Board's location as a Veterans Information Center is identified by a colorful poster bearing a large reproduction of the gold discharge emblen, "Our Local Board has inducted a large number of men into the Armed Forces during the last five years," snid Chairman » "Now we are ready to assist these same mon in reestablishing themselves in civilian life if they want and need our assistance. "Congres@has provided many rights, privileges, and benefits for ex- service men and women. These rights and benefits are provided by many dif- ferent laws and are administered by a number of different Government agencics. It is the purpose of our Veterans Information Center to aid the veteran in getting to the right place and obtaining the right information so that he may take advantage of all benefits to which he is entitled." Mrs... | pointed out thet persons who left positions to enter the Armed Forces are entitled by law to reinstatement in their old jobs when they return, if they fulfill certain requirements of the law. He explained that it is part of the Local Board's fur stion to assist the veteran in asserting his reemployment rights. The Socal Board is also charged by law with rendering aid to veterans seeking new employment. WMany veterans, of course, will not need assistance," said Mr. "for industry and business in general elready have seen to it that their former employees in service are welcomed back to their old jobs - or better ones. But, a large number of veterans are not familiar with their rights to reemployment and what they are entitled to in the way of prefcrence for new jobs. Chairman said the Board also will advise and assist the veteran with his other problems, including his insurance, G. I. loans, educational opportunities, and the like. "All these services," he said, "are free to the veteran for the asking, and he will find the Board's members, reenployment conmitteemen, and employees ready to do the utmost to save hin time and trouble in getting back in stride as a civilian."
