October 20, 1945 Pvt. Edward Sobczak Physical Training Department Hondo Army Air Field Hondo, Texas - Dear Eddie: Your good friend and mine, Lt. Stto 0. Schmellbacher, has written me that you are interosted in taking advantage of the G. Ie Bill of Rights. It would please us extremely if you should do so and it would be an added joy if you should be here on the campus of the "niversity of Kansas. As I wrote Otte we have a new term opening here Sovenber 1 and even though vou might be late in enrolling I think you could still get in by taking a limited number of hours. In other words, should they have a short term period of twelve weeks and Bhould you be two wecks late you could take credit for ten hours instead of twelve. One hour for each week that you are late or one hour for each woek you attend school. Of course, when you come in late thore is always tae di ffieulty of getting some Yrofessor to admit you in his blass but with the boys in the. sorvice coming back their attitude has changed. Otto tells me you are a orack football player as well as a fino basketball player. In the twonty-eight that we have coached basketball at the 'miversity of Kansas we have won ninetéen championships so of course we would be glad to have you on this Jayhawker hilltep which we call Mt. Oread. Doubtless Otte has shown you the Jayhawk Rebound that we write for the boys in the service but in case he has — not I am sending you the last one we wrote. This = ot your inspection and though it may tire you out, some of it may interest you, because of the dope about Otto which is always interesting to his frtends. We think Otto isa — great Dutehman. 6 Write ne at length regarding your desires. It will be a pleasure to commmicate with you with the vier towards - your antering tiis fine institution. With all good wishes. Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education, a Varsity Basketball Coach PCA:LEM. —
