A NEW championship con-
**~ tender appeared on the Mis-
Souri Valley basketball horizon
this week following Tulsa’s surge
to the top of the standings with
its 67-65 victory at Wichita Sat-
urday night.

The Golden Hurricane, led by
its sizzling Bob Patterson, now
owns a 2-0 league record and the
triumph at Wichita could prove
all-important as the season un-
folds since road victories are
hard to come by in this rugged
circuit.
. _ St. Louis (1-0) still is a good

bet to-succeed the Oklahoma Ag-
gies in the throne room and can
draw even with Tulsa if the Bil-

place deadlock will continue. The
Sooners play at Colorado and
Kansas at Iowa State.

Only two other conference
games are slated for Big Seven
teams this week, both involving
Kansas State. The Wildcats go to
Missouri Wednesday night and
entertain Iowa te Saturday.
