The Hope Dispatch C. M. Bowline, Editor HOPE, KANSAS 11+5-1941 br.Forrest +.Allen, Lawrence,Kansas. Dear Dr.#llen: Someone got the draw on me, or at any rate something happened. The committee which asked that I phone you, must have at the same time ask someone 6lse to east about for a speaker. The committee chairman called me early Monday morning and informed me they had secured Dr.Linquist, President of Bethany college. Since I had not received your letter up until Wednes- day morning, I didn't know just what your decision was going to be. However, it does put me on the spot and makes it rather embarrassing, as it is very seldom that we can get one of your standing to consent to come to our town. I hope however, even in the face of this that sometime we may have the privilege of sched- uling you for a visit. I was a little doubtful whether you would remember me from so many years ago as the manager of the Journal- World baseBall team. I do count it a privilege and an honor to have known you in those days. Please except my apology for this embarrassing moment, and permit me to extend best wishes for yourbirthday, which also happens to be one of my sons birthday. Sincerely, C.M.Bowline, president The Hope Lions Club. CMB: ew
