May 24, 1945. M/Sgt. W. R. Shaffer, H. & B. Cox, 1636th Eng. Con. iw BEng. Tng. Sec., Ft. Lewis, Washington. Dear Bub: I spoke at Russell on Tuesdey and had a good visit with your dad. Your mother was in Kansas City with your niece for the operation, and I did not get to visit with her. It just ocourred to me that I did not have you on the mailing list for our Jayhawk Rebounds. We call this “Jayhawk Rebounis” because we rebound from the backboard, and our boys are rebounding from the Japanazis. They have already rebounded from the krauts, so the slit-eyes are the next ones. I trust that you get some interesting reading from these Rebounds, and my fondest wishes are that you shall be back on the old home front in the not too distant future. With every good wish for your safety and your homecoming © tincpinten, I an Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education, FCA:AH Varsity Basketball Coach. Ens.
