SCHWARZ, ASSISTANT CASHIER WM. C. SCHWARTZ 4 Mearysetle Hharnsaby May 15, 1945 Dr. F. C. Alien Lawrence, Kansas Dear Doc: This morning, John W. Skidmore suggested that I might like to have dinner with you and some of your friends this Thursday when you come to speak to the graduating classes at Beattie and Summerfiield, I certainly would like to be with you, but last week I received the sincere greetings of Presi- dent Truman together with an invitation to report to Ft. Leavenworth on Thursday, May 17, for a pre- induction examination on Friday, May 18. I went through this same routine last year in March, and at that time they let me stay from Friday until Mon- day evening. At that time I guess my engine was a little too strong for my old worn out chassis; or at any rate they said my blood pressure was a little high. On top of my absence, your # 2 fan in Marysville, my father, is in Chicago on his vacation. Consequently, neither of us can extend personal greetings to you this week. I sincerely regret this state of affairs, but I guess I had better heed Uncle's call. My son John is growing fast. He is almost three now and as full of questions as he can be. He shows a great interest in watching football, basketball, and track meets. Thanks to his mother, I am sure he has a lot more imagination than his father has. We enjoy him a great deal. I send my best regards, and I am still very sorry that I will not be able to see you this week. Sincerely, S. Ope
