Columbia, Mo. July 24,1945 Dr. Forrest C. Allen University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: I have been intending to write to you for some time to tell you the outcome on the business at Maryville. Dr. Diemer and I finally got to gether for a short ( and I thought very unsatisfactory ) interview in Jefferson City the last of June. "tInsatisfactory" because he was in a terrific hurry and afte he found that I did not have an M.A. degree, he felt that he was wasting his time , I fear. However, dont think for a minute that I do not appreciate your efforts in the matter , I think you were ever so kind to sugge# me in the firs place. I guess that I felt slightly piqued ,inasmuch as the Dean of the Graduate School here at the Univ. - Dr. Curtis, had told me that in no way could he see any necessity for a dean of women to have a graduate degree especially one with the scope of other experience that I had..( I do have a B.S.in Ed. , you know , and one of the few Eife Certificates to Teach in the State of Mo. issued by the University.) I have certainly enjoyed your News Letter . It is thoughtful of you to include me. Nice to henge about your boys in the last one. Bob is still in Germany and expects. to be there for some time . He has travelled all over it - one of his recent trips took him to Bergensgerten (?) , Hitler's retreat which he seid was Situated in some of the most picturesque and beautiful scenery possible to imagine. He got the Paris Stadium organized for the Allies and now is at Mannheim where he is working on a similar project I understand. — As you see we have moved and are at this address only temporarily since we could not get into our new place until Sept. Houses here are as scarce as the proverbial hen's molars- every one wants to sell at about three times what the property is worth, so they wont rent until they have to. The place where we were living was sold out from under us s0 when our contract was up we were oute July 30, 1945 Mrs. Amy Meryl Simpson 910 Providence Road Columbia, Missouri - Dear Mrs. Simpson: I am sorry that Dr. Diemer and you did not make satisfactory affiliation. There are so many administrators who have degreeitis. Certainly a Master's Degree for that position could not be access bag- gage. I know that you have a B.S. in education and I am quite sure : that would be sufficient, but the boss thought otherwise. | fe . Bob, Sr., is certainly having very interesting experiences ‘in Germany. Being in — retreat, without Adolph, would be a pleasure. I an glad that Bob, Jr., has orders for OCS. I imagine that Phyllis and the young grandchild could make formidable competition for grandparent. I imagine that we will not get to Columbia until basketball season. I hope that you get into your new quarters before then. If, at any time, I can be of any help, please call upon me. With all good wishes to you and yours, I am Sincerely, Forrest C. Kensas City, Missouri Dear Charlie: I have not answered your good letter of the sixth instant but I assure you that my interest in your job and my enthusiasm for you personally is no guage of the situation. 7 Personally, I feel flattered that you would ask that I offer any suggestions that might prove helpful. I have none at present, but should any occur to me I will feel perfectly free to write yous. How- ever; I have great confidence in you and your ability, and I am sure that you will 4p°a ewell jobs , Your idea is a splendid one regarding the annual celebration. I think this is very necessary for all concerned, There is one thing that I might pass on to you, namely, that for years here at Convocation they do not finish the Crimson and Blue with the Rook Chalk yell. It is just lile having your gravy without salt in it, and too, mass meetings have practically been dono away with for years. Sometime when I have an opportunity te go over this with you I will elaborate. We certainly need some spizerinktum with tabasco and giniger. There seems to be a curse on anything that stimulates enthusiasm for athletics, This oe for all sport when a Convocation is an aered « Alberta Cornwell, the now cheer loader, is a dandy and she 3 has a promise from the Chancellor for an athletic convocation. I think it would be a swell thing if we could have you and your active group to attend tha: Convogation that morning. I will have Miss quewels write you the dope.
