413 North Bleckley Drive Wichita, 8, Kansas December 7, 1943 Dr. F.C. Allen Director of Physical Education Robinson Gym University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen, I trust you are well and enjoying an eventful basket ball season. I recently read in the Wichita papers that you are expected to have another powerful squad this year. We have a pretty fair aggregation here at Boeing, and I am wondering if we could interest you in a game in spite of your already heavy schedule. : Our team is made up of fairly large players; Charlie Halbert, who played for West Texas Teachers, is 6'9" tall and is as good as any boy his size. We have another boy who is 66", and about four boys ranging from 6*2" to 6'4" in height. We finished last years season by beating Phillips 66 at Bartlesville just a week before they went to Denver and won the National. We have three games scheduled with Phillips 66 again this year, two or three games with the Hutchinson Navy Base, and several other service teams besides our regular league games here in Wichita. George Gardner is our coachsand he said he would like very much to have a game with you if it could be arranged. He was thinking, in particular, of a Red Cross Benefit game here in Wichita, which, of course, would guarantee your expenses. 1 would appreciate hearing from you regarding this matter, and if you are interested please let me know of any open dates you have. Dr. Allen, I am also writing to you regarding my basket ball safety glasses. I need to have the strength of my lenses increas- ed and I have forgotten the name of the company who manufacturers them. Would you please send me the necessary information concern- ing the optical company. I would surely like to come back and pay a visit to K.U. this winter, but I am afraid my working schedule will not permit that. Give my regards to Dean and the fellows, and my best wishes for a successful season this year. Sincerely yours, “ Marvin Sollenberger MS: jk
