Dear Dr. Allen:

I have received your letter of recommendation which I
recently requested. This letter has arrived in plenty of
time for the use I had contemplated.

I know that you are very busy with the basketball team,
and I am also aware that my request was made at one of the
very busiest times of the year. As a matter of fact, for that
very reason and also because I had never competed directly
under you or had the benefit of your coaching ability, I
hesitated to call upon you for this letter, but could think of
no other party who could write a letter which would be as
great a benefit to me as would a letter from you,

I note however, that you have neglected to sign the letter,
no doubt due to the fact that you were in a hurry and that
you did sign the letter which accompanied the enclosure, so
I am enclosing the letter for your signature.

LI am sure this letter will be of great value to me when
I go before the draft for induction, and I am greatly indebted
to you for the same,
