From this $155.53 was deducted for expenses and giftse Of the expenses $93.35 went for gifts to Dre and Mrse Allen, including the book of greetings, and $62.18 for the cost of letters and expenses incurred in the pre-game ceremonye In soliciting tangible expressions of appreciation of Dr. Allen's long period of service to the University, the committee an- nounced definite plans for this fumd which we desire to have filed in your office as a record of the transactions and as instructions for the future handling. le It was agreed that necessary expenses and special gifts to Dre and Mrs. Allen were to be taken from the contributions. 2 The remaining sum and additional donations to this fund are to be invested in Defense Bonds. Se The Defense Bonds are to be converted at maturity into a scholarship fund known as the Fe Ce Allen Scholarship to be administered by the University Committee on Aids and Awardse In establishing the detailed arrangements for granting awards from this fund, the ccammittee shall give consideration to any recommendation which the honoree, Dre Fe. Ce Allen, shall submit. 4. If, following termination of the war before maturity of the bonds, there is apparent a vital need for additional scholarship funds, the Coumittee on Aids and Awards shall have authority to cash the bonds and make the money available immediately to provide scholar- shipse
