WAAR GE AE Oe HE . 2 January, 1945. Dear Dr. Alien, I wish to thank you for putting me on the "Rebound" mailing list. I enjoy reading it very much. I also should like to join with the many others in appreciation of the fine tribute paid T.P.. by you and his other friends. I think that I failed to mention in my last letter that) one of my good friends at my station in Hawaii was ga friend of yours. Lt. Commander "Rollie" Wi illiams, for- ‘mer basketball coach at Iowa U., was the athletic dir- ector at the Naval Air Station where I served for about 18 months. I got to know him fairly well-especially as a fishing companion-and he is certainly a fine gentleman. He was very well liked at the station, and many were the bull sessions which, more often than, not, would end with Rollie telling vasketball stories..especaklly about "Doc" Meanwell and Rollies playing days at Wisconsin. I could always "needle" him a little about that last pasting the boys from Mt. Oread gave him,but he was a grand sport about it. . The naval officer who had the room across from mine also knows you and you may remember him. He was Jim Wells, now a Lt.(j.g.) in the Navy, and formerly a sports broadcaster from Buffalo, N.¥.. Jim told me that he interviewed you on his program several times when Lyou_ Were traveling t through Buffalo. Again I Want to ~ thank you for putting me on the mail- ing list, md I want to-notify you of a change in address. I am still stateside, but the present address is Lt. James R. Surface, c/o General Delivery, Dana Point, Calif. Best of luck in the basketball season. Now that basket ball season is back, we aaa ae ens hold our own in the numerous "bull sessions" Sincerely,
