Kansas City, Mo» February 1, 1946 Dre Forest Allen c/O Universi ty of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Phog: My oldest son, Fred, will graduate at Southwest High School this spring and I am planning on sending him to K.U. next September. He desires to take Chemical ingineering. I am writing you and request that you advise me the proceedure necessary to enroll at Lawrence. Knowing of the possible restrictions on “out of state" students, I de- sire to get his name in immediately. Fred is 6'-4" tall, weighs about 188 lbs., and is on the basket- ball squad at Southwest. To date he has not played in a single game but he has never missed a practice. He just took up basketball this year. He plays on our church team and has developed remarkably in the last few monthse His coach is Frank Wheat, a former Missouri player, whom I'm sure you know, Both Frank and Ken Yunker, another Missouri man, have told me they felt he had very good prospects of developing into a good player and have tried to persuade me to send him to Columbia, but neither his mother nor myself desire to send him to Missouri. He wants to go to Ke Use and frankly he eats, drinks and talks nothing but basketball. He has made his letter in swimming and won't go out this year because of it’s interfering with his basketball, I believe he could easily make another swimming letter but he prefers to be on the basketball squad where he plays every practice day. I don't wish to appear too enthu- siastic but I do believe he is a better than average prospect and am anxious to get him in K,U. this fall. fhanking you for any information you may furnish me, Fraternally yours, 0G keh __ Phil G.
