Allen Department of Physical Education Campus Dear Phog: I will be at the Chicago meeting with you. We will have a phonograph record greeting from the Chancellor who will have something to say about the reorganization of the University for war purposes. However, I wish you would put in a plug regarding the Alumi Loan Scholarships for Freshmene This plan was con- ceived by Dutch Wedell. It is similar to what the University of California Alumi Association is doing. We are pushing it because almost all loans and scholarships are for upper class- mene We recognize that is good educational policy because a freshmen should prove his worth. However, there are many excellent freshmen who need help to start. The plan is that local alumi groups in Kansas each have the right to nominate a student for this award. The local group puts up $50 Qswe match that $50 with a similar amount from the central fund. We want the out of state alumi to put up the central fund. The Chicago alumi have already contributed over $300 to this end we want to keep them going. A mimeographed statement regarding the fund is enclosed. yr By the way, at what hotel are you keeping the team or es a end what rates do you pay? 1 went to stay overnight in Chicago eo” Friday night, January 30, and want to get a good rate. h oe Cordially, Grup i.
