' HARRY LLOYD, Director C4 CLYDE SUCHSLAND, Clerk © JOHN DANNENBERG, Treasurer GAYLORD PUBLIC SCHOOLS J. E. COLE, Superintendent WM. BROWN, Grade Principal GAYLORD, - KANSAS Dr. F.C, Allen March 27, 1941 Director of Physical Education, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, Dear Dr, Allen: I received your letter of the 25th, to-day and wish to say that we will be glad to pay you 5¢ a mile each way out here to be with us at our Little Six Basketball League Ban- quet on Tuesday, April 15, I realize that your duties as coach of baseball as well as your other duties there at the university all call for a very heavy load on your part, I didn't know that you had the baseball load which rolled right in upon the completion of your reguhar basketball season, I appreciate your heavy responsibility and realize that it is a great sacrifice on your part to make so many of our high schools as a banquet speaker, But I also know that you mean very much to the basketball devotees of the state, All the high school boys out this way have heard of Phog Allen , many of them have digested your books on the cage game, and all of them will be delighted to have you around the banquet table, Now the route I suggested in my former letter will be the best since you are driving your Buick out, I refer to U.S,24 which you will have all the way from north of Lawrence a short way on out to about seven miles west of Downs, At that point that highway turns south to Osborne and there you take Kansas 9 on over here to Gaylord, good road all the way. My home town ia down there at Winchester and I have driven out here many times and find 24 the best and quickest route to drive, So come out loaded with your basketball lore and we'll try to give you the“glad hand® in good style. We get a lot of kick out of some of the sport items relative to your late prediction as to football's future but I'm sure most school men agree that football and horse racing are getting somewhat of the same savor in all too many ways. School and college athletics in general may ”eeqg a bit of negative acceleration for their good and for the best interest @h education in fact, Thanks a lot; we'll be waiting, Yours truly, «&, G& J.E.Cole, Supt.
