Thank you for your good letter of the 4th instante We will be
‘happy to see you on March 7. I trust that we can have e good visite There
are a lot of interesting mae that we will find to talk about I assure yous ‘

They asked me to take the baseball team since they have no coach
and all the material is either graduated or has quit school with the exception
_ of two boys who played on the squad last years One of our boys from Wichita,
who played here on the team last year entered the University of Oklahorme
because Jap Haskell gives so much attention to baseball, Jap is a hustler,
and since he is comected with the Boston Red Soxs in some unofficial capacity

I am not getting any remuneration for the jobe i am avine it just
as an act of kindness and one of cooperation, but I will get some Phi Beta ©
Kappas and coeds together and wee what we can de about ite I kmow if I
get the coeds on the team I will drawa crowle Seriously speaking, Roy,
it is the worst baseball outlook I have ever seen at any school, but I am
going to get in there and hustle and piteh — see if we cannot do something

Your letters always inspire mée I never will forget the time I.
came to Lawrence in September, 1919 and had the pleasure of seeing you here
in a very important position and remembering that I also had the pleasure of
officiating basketball games when you were playing on the Varsitye And then
too I renember all the fine and loyal things that you did for me and then
later to have had the pleasure of having you on our Varsity squad, playing
when we had but few men, wmdersized, and not all blessed with the best fimdae
mentals, but fighting their hearts out for dear old Alma Waters. ‘Then I
remember Scrubby's and John Burmn‘'s episode of going to a show instead of
going to bede Discipline, winning the ball game, and building a foundation
for the fighting teams of the future was our Jobe |
