February 14, 1942 Mre Maurice Le Mason Mason and Mason Attorneys and Counselors at Law American National Rank Bldgs Saint Joseph, Missouri Dear Mre Masons Thank you very much for your good letter of the llth instant regarding Arthur Spangberg. I must tell you that Arthur has been borrowing money fron his landlady here and from other peoples He has been to St. Joseph three or four times and has borrowed money for transportation, but each time he retums without money to repay these peoples This makes for a very @isquicting situation heres é : The landlady hes called me and she, vpom several occasions, has loaned money to hime Exch time he promises to return the money borrowed but he is enpty-handed, He has borrowed money fron students and while he has worked some, he has not worked enough to pay for the money he hes borrowed, let alone for his food and his roan rente last Wednesday, February 12, was the last day for tuition fees to be paide There is a fine of 507 per day for late payment of fees. After five days the student who has not paid his fees is subject to dismissal fron schoole 7 i would suggest that unless something be done at once that Arthur return to Ste Joseph and not cause himself, as well as others he has come in come in coniact with, any embarrassmente , I @m sure that you will wmderstand my necessity in taking these steps. A stranger just cannot come into a commmity without finds, borrow money for transportation and fail to return its especially when it is borrowed froa people who are badly in need of the money and who loaned it on the promise that the money would be returned as soon as the individwl came back to : For that reason I am appealing to you to right the condition if possible. Sincerely yours,
